150th Anniversary in Partnership with Jaguar

Parnell Lawn Tennis Club Celebrates 150 years: October 28 - 30, 2022

What a fantastic weekend of celebrations!  From the cocktail evening on Friday evening, the Caro Bowl tennis followed by the formal / black tie dinner on Saturday, and then the Wardrobes Direct "Wimbledon Whites" tournament on Sunday - lots of reminiscing and catching up with old friends, as well as making many, many new memories.
Congratulations to the organising committee for a wonderfully organised "show"!

Taken some neat photos? We would love to see them!

Although we already have some great photos of the weekend's festivities, we know there must be thousands upon thousands of other great photos out there on people's mobile phones. If you think you have got a few nice "shots" from the weekend, we would love to see them and share them with everyone else on the website.

It would help the club build its archives of club history and events. This is a significant one!!

Please email us your great photos to celebrate150years@pltc.co.nz

Andre Aggasi zooms in to say "Happy Birthday" to PLTC

Hello everyone, Andre Agassi here. Just wanted to say "Hi", and also say "Congratulations Parnell Lawn Tennis Club for 150 amazing years - what an accomplishment!"  Thank you for all the years of service to your community, and also for all the years of supporting the great sport of tennis. I wish you all my best, and I look forward to coming down there soon and seeing you all in person. God bless - touch out.

A few images from across the three days - lots more in Photo Galleries!

Day One - Friday 28th

The weekend celebrations began with a cocktail party at the clubrooms giving more than 200 people an opportunity to catch up with friends, current and past members and see our new facilities. Ex-president and life member Ru Douglas performed the opening mihi, which was followed by a rousing rendition of Sweet Caroline as the closing karakia. This was followed by a welcome speech from current president Graeme Fraser.

Principal sponsor Jaguar had one of their top-of-the-line Jaguar F-Pace Type R sportscars on Peter Fletcher court for the evening. Members were seen queueing to sign up for a chance to win the use of the car for a weekend.

The evening ended with some energetic dancing from enthusiastic members and guests.

Day Two - Saturday 29th

Daytime - The battle lines were drawn for the first Caro Bowl mens challenge between PLTC Head and Karaka at the club - starring some ex-Davis Club players battling it out in inclement weather unfortunately. Another success for the club with PLTC taking out the match 4 - 2.  A great way to continue our weekend of celebrations.

Evening -  A formal / black tie dinner was held "Under the Dome" at the Auckland Museum. Members and guests were joined by our Patron and the newly appointed Deputy Mayor amongst many other dignitaries.  Attendees were entertained by some great presentations and the well kept secret for the night was American former world No 1, Andre Agassi, wishing the club congratulations on it's achievement. A wonderful evening had by all.

Day Three - Sunday 30th

Wardrobes Direct "Wimbledon Whites" Tennis Tournament

This was to be an opportunity to see how players back in the day played our game. After a couple of false starts due to weather conditions, members managed to play some social tennis with their wooden racquets followed by a trivia quiz on all things tennis and a test of their knowledge about the club.

Prizegiving and Formalities

The weekend ended with prizes for "best dressed" and some spot prizes. This was followed by some formalities and a speech from our Patron, Ex President and Life Member Peter Wilson. Ex-president and Life Member Cavell Morgan (Age 98) was given the honour of cutting the cake to end the celebrations.
