HO HO HO and Happy Holidays.
We are drawing to the end of an incredible 2023 and we have been reflecting on another wonderful year at PLTC which truly is a special place. PLTC has been involved with so much, and with a new year ahead we can be very excited for all that's on offer and more in 2024. Our biggest congratulations to all our PLTC teams, whether they are Juniors or Caro Bowl or the Business House, Presidents and Inter-clubbers in between. All our competitive players have done well this year and we appreciate your dedication and spirit.
End of year celebrations are in full swing, the Christmas Tree is up - (thank you Liz Bell) and the club is beaming with Christmas spirit. As we near the 25th there are a few days PLTC is closed, please do note or refer to these dates below. The PLTC Christmas Party and MID WEEK LADIES are both on the 13th. The Christmas party is a fun Dress up party, featuring Sal's Pizza, spot prizes and games. Come along and have a relaxed evening with your PLTC family. The MWL is the morning of 13th …Ho Ho Ho! …..and we have not finished yet….its a packed December…And also please note that parking will be difficult with Christmas in the Park on Sat 9th.
We love to see all our members socially or otherwise enjoying the club and we wish to also acknowledge all our staff and volunteers and committee who continue to work tirelessly and not just at the club. A lot is behind the scenes, and it's a huge team effort to get any event off the ground and running flawlessly! Huge thanks.
Speaking of events….Next Friday 15th we have a Corporate event featuring Michael Venus.
The Michael Venus Christmas Invitational
Being a corporate event it is being co-run by our sponsor “Working Style”. Register here.
This is an opportunity to see some world class tennis. Come and be entertained by Michael and friends on Peter Fletcher court. If you are not aware, Michael is a New Zealand professional tennis player. He has a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 6, achieved on 29 August 2022. Venus won the 2017 French Open Men's doubles partnering Ryan Harrison, and followed that with a runner-up finish in the 2017 US Open mixed doubles partnering Chan Hao-ching. Venus and Harrison qualified for the year-end championships ATP Finals, where they reached the semifinals. Michael also played in the Men's doubles final at Wimbledon in 2018. His ranking is 16 in doubles in 2023. With Working Style, Mercedes-Benz Auckland, and H. Lanvin & Fils Champagne, it's going to be a top shelf evening.
The club and grounds are looking great, and every year we plan to enhance the property for our members' benefit. We love to all get involved in Working bees and welcome any help large or small.
The lighting plan is well underway and we have all those details below. We are so pleased with what we have raised so far and one more push and we will have secured the Project.
An update on the Lighting Project
Firstly, a huge thank you to those who have already donated to the lighting project. We have received over $10,000 toward the project so far. If you wish to donate, the account number is 12-3086-0079277-50. You may also donate at the bar if you choose. Every bit helps, so a small addition to your bar bill would be greatly appreciated. As mentioned previously, any donation of $2,000 or more will secure an invitation to a special dinner to celebrate the inauguration of the new lights early in 2024.
Secondly, we would like to clarify any confusion surrounding the proposed 1,000 lux "tournament-level" lighting objective. When all the lamps of our current lighting setup are operational (admittedly a rare occurrence recently), the bottom bay averages over 1,000 lux and the top bay around 750 lux. The new LED lights will achieve an average of approximately 1,000 lux across all eight courts.
We already have court lighting that is unmatched at most tennis clubs in the country, and we wish to maintain and extend that for the enjoyment of our members. The additional benefits of the new LED lighting will be far better reliability (with fittings expected to last for up to 100,000 hours and warranted for up to 10 years) and much lower running costs, meaning ongoing expenses to the Club will be significantly reduced.
