THE LAWN

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to You all!

What a December we have had and it's not over yet.

Firstly we wish you all a very safe and fun-filled holiday season with family and friends, and look forward to an exciting 2024 here at PLTC.

We had the last Midweek Ladies for the year on Wednesday this week with sun shining and also the ever popular Club Night too, along with Juniors coaching and we have had a few events too. This weather has been just perfect for tennis. Great to see many 4s on the courts enjoying the balmy evenings and days. It is just so good to see the club looking fantastic! All that garden and building maintenance has paid off, and thank you volunteers. A huge amount goes on behind the scenes at PLTC and it's great we have such a good network of members who really do roll up their sleeves. We do welcome anyone who can help out in any aspect of helping the club. Please get in touch here if your skills or business can benefit us at PLTC.

We were thrilled to have co-hosted  the The Michael Venus Christmas Invitational along with 3 other very strong and prominent players last Friday night. CHECK OUT THE GLORIOUS PHOTOS BELOW….

Working Style's Chris Dobbs, one of our incredible sponsors, made the event just soo wonderful, along with Mercedes Benz, and with the help of the PLTC team, we pulled off a spectacular yet relaxed feel event with amazing world class tennis, including H. Lanvin et Fils champagne, other beverages and delicious food boxes. A fantastic performance from Peter Urlich DJ and amazing auction of some very generous items and also equally generous winners!

Micheal Venus was accompanied by Rhett Purcell, Kai Millburn and Jack Loutit. These young men took to the challenge with enthusiasm, gusto and a good laugh entertained us all and we are grateful to them for being there with us.

Exciting banter with Rhett and Michael and MC Greg Long who were mic'd up. Alongside were 3 glorious Mercedes Benz cars. Plenty of people in the crowds watching in awe and imbibing. We were pleased to have had this opportunity to not only showcase the club yet also help raise money for the court lights. More on that below.

We hope we can do a similar event next year as the feedback has been impressive and Michael, Rhett, Kai and Jack have all said it was such a fun evening and great to be involved in.

The Mid Week Ladies Christmas tournament was a great day in the end what with the awful weather claiming our time on court, yet the ladies endured and what with plenty of fun dress up and beautiful shared lunch overlooking the courts we celebrated together with good Christmas cheer. A Win for Jean Gilmour, with placings to Marian McCabe, and Paula Curuthers, with a few fun spot prizes.

The Xmas PLTC Party was a great success, as always it s a fun evening to tennis up and dance and laugh! We did so love those outfits. Rosemary and Blair featured with impressive ensembles!

An exciting few weeks for the ASB Classic is imminent and should be another fantastic showcase. We may see you there! Why not pop up to the club after the ASB tennis any day of the week and join friends at the bar for a recap.

Please check the details of club hours over the holiday period and note gates will be locked. Note an error on last "Lawn" mentioned the bar open 3pm-7 Updated now open at 4pm-7pm.

An Update on the Lighting Project

Many thanks to all those who have donated to the lighting project.  As at 18 December, we have received a total of $19,650.94 in donations toward our $50,000 goal. We are very grateful for all contributions, regardless of value, so if you feel that you would like to add a small amount to your next bar bill, that would also be gratefully accepted.  Many a drop makes an ocean! If you wish to donate directly, the account number is 12-3086-0079277-50.

In terms of progress on the project itself, having talked with Tennis Auckland regarding the recently completed LED lighting upgrade at Stanley Street, we have requested a quote from one more vendor. This should arrive within the week. The current plan is to have a contract signed with a preferred provider in January to enable us to have the project completed by the 2024 winter season, as planned.
