THE LAWN

As the air gets crisper, it's time to embrace the vibrant spirit of autumn here at the Parnell Lawn Tennis Club. We're excited to welcome you to our latest edition of “The Lawn”

Club Championships prize giving is this Friday and is a good excuse to finish off the week with friends and watch the formalities. Plus there is a happy hour!

We will have many upcoming events and it's always helpful to look at the notice board in the club for news on tournaments or stay connected with the PLTC APP. This is a great way to keep up to date with weather issues as the cooler months are with us.

We have a full summary below of the lights project. It has been challenging, yet it is something that will make the club a real show piece and brilliant over the darker months.

We are always keen to accept help at the club and always welcome and applaud any volunteers who put up their hands.

This time of year also makes for a good opportunity to stock up on sale gear and apparel at our Pro Shop. Look out for discounts on rackets, and accessories to elevate your game.

If you are interested in playing winter Interclub please check in the club room notice board for further details. or contact our manager Here

We also welcome any “News” and “Photos” from members that may added  to The Lawn

LIGHTS UPDATE

We're thrilled to share some exciting updates regarding our upcoming LED lighting upgrade and pole replacement project. Here's what you need to know:

LED Light Fittings Arrival: The LED light fittings are on track to arrive at the supplier's warehouse next week. Delivery has been arranged to coincide with the installation process.

Preparatory Work by Thomson Electrical: Thomson Electrical will kick off preparatory work next week. This includes replacing corroded conduit on the bottom bay, installing a new vehicle crossing conduit at the side of court four, and adding additional surge protection devices.

Installation Schedule: The installation of the new lights is scheduled to commence on May 13th, weather permitting. This will begin with the top bay and is estimated to take approximately six days, with one pole being installed per day.

Pole Replacement: Fraser Thomas engineers have identified an urgent need to replace the four southern poles on the bottom bay due to corrosion. Details regarding the remediation of the four northern poles will be provided shortly.

Budget Considerations: We're currently in the process of seeking pricing and scheduling for the pole replacement. This unexpected expense, likely around $25k, will require additional funding beyond the $5k contingency budgeted.

Continued Work and Potential Disruptions: After installing lights on the top bay, work will continue on the four northern poles of the bottom bay. Efforts will be made to replace the southern poles before electricians finish LED installation on the northern poles, ideally by late May. If not possible, a subsequent LED installation for the final four poles will be scheduled.

Minimizing Disruptions: Due to the potential concurrent pole replacement and LED installation, there may be significant disruptions on the lower bay courts. We assure you that we'll strive to minimize inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding during this upgrade process.

We're incredibly excited about the enhancements this project will bring to our facilities and the overall tennis experience for our members. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work towards creating a better environment for everyone.

NEW KETTLE

A big thank you to Barbara Moses for her generous donation of a brand new kettle to the PLTC! It's been well used, making things a little easier for everyone since we unboxed it a few weeks ago. We greatly appreciate your support and thoughtfulness. Thank you!
