PLTC AGM 2023

On Thursday, September 28th, PLTC convened its Annual General Meeting, drawing the participation of 91 dedicated members, with 82 voting members in attendance.

The initial order of business centred on the acceptance of the Financial Statements and the President's report. Following a brief period of questions to clarify various aspects, these documents were overwhelmingly approved, as was the President's Report.

The next agenda item revolved around the election of Officers and Committee members. Given the unfortunate passing of our esteemed former Patron, Peter Wilson, in May of this year, the Committee put forth the nomination of Dr. Ru Douglas as the Club's new Patron. This nomination received resounding endorsement from the membership. Dr. Douglas expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged to carry out his duties faithfully, following in the footsteps of his predecessors.

Unopposed, Graeme Fraser secured a second term as President.

Adhering to the Club's standard rotation policy, three Committee members were elected from a pool of four nominees. Hamish Thomson resumed his role, while new members Kat Bamford and Sean Brown were elected to the Committee, all serving two-year terms.

The meeting transitioned to Special Business, which encompassed the discussion and voting on proposed amendments to the PLTC Constitution aimed at bolstering governance and financial management. The initial motion garnered an 82% majority, surpassing the required 75% threshold for Constitutional amendments. In contrast, the second motion, which sought to incorporate explicit gender equality statements and prioritise members in specific tournaments, faced extensive discussion but failed to secure the required threshold, receiving only 27% approval.

Concluding the meeting, the floor opened for General Business, during which several members expressed their appreciation for the dedicated work of the 150th organising committee, past and present Presidents, and Committees. A discussion ensued regarding the potential introduction of a Mid-week membership option for the club.

We extend our appreciation to the scrutineers for the meeting, Paul and Thomas Leighton from JSA Audit, as well as to all our members whose contributions ensured the success of this gathering.
